Calling all DC bookworms, ping-pong players of all skill levels, friends new and old, and anyone interested in supporting young writers! 826DC wants you at Paddlestar Galactica.
What is Paddlestar Galactica?
Paddlestar Galactica is a bracket-style ping-pong tournament that supports 826DC’s free writing programs for local youth. This year’s games will be Sunday, June 7th, 12-3:30 PM at SPIN DC.
How does it work?
Participants have about six weeks to raise as much as they can, either solo or with a team (usually 2-3 people).
There are no fundraising minimums, and you don’t even have to be great at ping-pong. The more money that you raise, though, the more offbeat cheats you can “buy” during the tournament.
You can swap your opponent’s paddle for a fly-swatter. You can make them use their non-dominant hand. You can even have them wear impenetrable sunglasses! The list goes on.
It’s an awesome, chaotic, wonderfully-weird day full of ping-pong, drink specials, prizes*, costumes, and good cheer. Best of all? 100% of the money raised will fund homework help, writing workshops, and publishing opportunities for DC students ages 6-18.
I’m in! I want to fundraise and play.
Amazing! Register a team here. We’ll follow up with everything that you need to get started.
I just want to watch.
That’s great too! The players definitely won’t get all of the fun—the crowd will get to help pick some of the prize winners and give their favorite teams a boost.
RSVP to the Facebook event here and invite anybody you’d like to join you.
I’d like to support a team!
