If you could speak directly to someone in a position of power, what would you say? 826DC is teaming up with Arena Stage on Saturday, March 1st for a special free performance, “Dear Adult,” where you’ll hear K-12 students from across the District answer that question.
Following a series of writing workshops with 826DC this fall, these young writers will share letters they wrote to adults who hold positions of power, both in their own lives and over broader issues that impact us all. Addressed to everyone from family members and school officials to Mayor Bowser and President Trump, these letters have something to teach everyone.
“Adults may make most of the decisions in young people’s lives, but on March 1st, it’s our turn to listen,” says Robyn Lingo, 826DC’s Executive Director. “D.C. students are paying attention and they have important things to tell us. The art of letter writing—and now, of reading their work for you all—offers a uniquely personal, direct window into what’s been on their minds. We hope you’ll join us at Arena Stage to support our students at this unforgettable performance.”
Karen Zacarías— one of the most produced playwrights in the US, the founder of the Young Playwrights’ Theater and the Latiné Theatre Commons, and the 2019 Washingtonian of the Year—will also join the student performers to open the evening. DC Attorney General Brian Schwalb will offer final remarks to close out the performance.
The “Dear Adult,” event is happening on Saturday, March 1st, 5:30 PM to 7 PM at Arena Stage. RSVP for free at bit.ly/DearAdult.
