826DC Honors Three Standout Supporters of Youth Voice

826DC Press Release

Washington, DC – May 30, 2023 – 826DC, the Columbia Heights-based youth writing nonprofit and local chapter of the nation’s largest youth writing network, 826, recently recognized three community members for their contributions to youth writing education.

Anne Rosen, a celebrated journalist and longtime 826DC volunteer, won The Heather Borra O’Donnell Award for Volunteer Service. Anne has been a beloved fixture at 826DC’s After-School Writing Lab for nearly a decade, inspiring scores of students through and even past their graduations.

The Magic-Maker Award for Educators in Contribution to Youth Literacy went to Louise Marchica, a partnering teacher with an exceptional commitment to quality writing opportunities and experiences in both English and Spanish.

Lastly, 826DC selected Tara Greco for The Kurt Wimmer Award for Board Service. Tara won this award, named for late 826DC board member Kurt Wimmer, for her steady and stellar board leadership through uncertain times.

“So many incredible people in this community have stepped up to help our students build both confidence in their unique voices and the skills to use those voices in ways that are meaningful to them,” says Zachary Clark, 826DC’s Executive Director. “We are truly lucky to have Anne Rosen, Louise Marchica, and Tara Greco among them.”

“They have all had an outsized impact on the young writers whom we serve today,” he continued, “and have helped prepare 826DC to be everything we can be for the young people who will write with us in the years to come. It’s a true honor to serve alongside them, to learn from them, and to share in the joy of this work.”

Each was the first to win their respective awards, setting the scene for future honorees to follow in their footsteps.
