Upcoming Ways to Get Involved with 826DC

The next couple of months are full of opportunities to get involved with 826DC and uplift DC’s young voices! Whether you’re interested in volunteering, interning, donating, or more, there are always ways for you to be part of the magic that happens here. Here are some of those upcoming opportunities in July, August, and September 2019.

Volunteering

New Volunteers:

Attend one of our upcoming Volunteer Training Sessions, 6 PM to 8 PM here at the 826DC writing center! Check out our calendar to find a date that works for you, and RSVP to Kelsey at volunteer@826dc.org.

Current Volunteers:

We’re looking for support with our next Young Authors’ Book Project, a nonfiction journalism book that will cover everything from column writing to interviews, features, and more! This will be a once-weekly commitment in a middle school classroom, starting in mid-September and wrapping up in mid-December. Actual project dates are pending. If you’re interested, please contact Emily at emily@826dc.org.

826DC’s After-School Writing Lab is just around the corner. If you aren’t already involved in this wonderful program, consider joining us! Contact Andrea at andrea@826dc.org with any questions.

Interning

826DC is accepting applications for our Educational Programming internship, our Communications and Development internship, and our Graphic Design internship!

Head over to our internship page to learn more and to apply. Be sure to submit your materials by August 23rd!

Donating

Donations help 826DC keep our programs free and open for all DC students. Setting up a monthly donation is the best way to support what we do—Daniel, one of 826DC’s monthly donors, explains why here.

No matter how much or how often you give, however, donating to 826DC is one of the best ways to show our local young people that their stories matter and that we’re all invested in what they have to say.

Being a Visiting Author

We pay authors to join us in classrooms around the District through 826DC’s Visiting Authors Program, bringing new and established voices together to talk about books and writing. Right now, we’re looking for more authors to join us in August and in September!

Check out this blog post to learn more about the program and about next steps.

Connecting with us

Follow us on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and/or LinkedIn to see what 826DC’s young authors are up to, to get a sneak peek of upcoming programs and opportunities, or just to make your social media feeds a bit more magical.

We also host the lowercase—an open mic series for authors, poets, writers, journalists, spoken word artists, and other word-loving people—on the first Wednesday evening of the month! If you’d like to read at an upcoming lowercase, email Anja at lowercase@826dc.org to secure your spot in the lineup.

Spreading the Word

Do you know someone who would love to write with us, to work with us, or to support 826DC? Tell them about us!
