Half-Half-Half-Half-Half Marathon

Calling all runners, couch potatoes, and everyone in between! On June 5th, you're invited to briefly book it for youth literacy. 0.826 miles never went so far...

About the Half-Half-Half-Half-Half Marathon

This is a completely distanced, remote fundraiser that anyone can join, no matter where you are.

Participants have until June 5th to raise as many donations as possible for 826DC. No minimums; you just raise what you can!

We know how tough it’s been to meet new friends during the pandemic, so we’ll have optional virtual “trainings” each week, where you’ll get to meet one another, share fundraising tips, and just have a blast as you support this community.

We’ll also send you playlists, prizes, and other inspiration leading up to the big day, June 5th, when you’ll do your 0.826 mile run/read/walk/jog/nap/dance/et cetera, whenever and wherever you feel like it.

Get Involved

Everyone who signs up gets their very own fundraising page, access to all Marathon content, and is eligible to win fun prizes! This event is 100% virtual, so it’s okay if you aren’t in the DC area.

Can’t participate? No worries. You can also support us with a donation. Everything we raise from this event funds our programs with DC students and teachers, right when they’re needed most.

What is all this about?

We’re raising money by having friends of 826DC participate in a virtual mini marathon! 100% of the donations that everyone brings in will help us continue to offer free writing programs and publishing opportunities for DC students ages 6-18.

Do I have to live in DC?

I’m not really a runner. Can I still participate?

Where and when do I run or walk?

Anywhere you want and any time you want on Saturday, June 5th.

Do I have to raise a certain amount?

No. Just raise what you can!

Can I fundraise as a team?

Everyone gets an individual fundraising page, but let us know if you’d like a team page as well. Sarah (sarah@826dc.org) can help set that up for you.

What do I do when someone is ready to donate?

Direct them to your secure fundraising page, which should have been automatically set up for you when you registered (check your email). Folks can also send us checks to 826DC, c/o Areesah Mobley, at 3333 14th Street NW, Suite M-120, Washington, DC 20010. Just ask them to put your name in the memo section so we can credit the right fundraiser!

Can I use a Facebook fundraiser instead?

We’d rather you didn’t. Having everything in one spot—we use Classy’s fundraising system—makes it much easier for us to keep track of everything.

Are donations tax-deductible?

Yes. Donations made online will receive an automated letter. Let us know if you’d like a donation acknowledgement for checks.

What do people wear on the big day?

We have printable marathon bibs for you to decorate and wear, if you’d like to wear them, but it’s really up to you! Many folks choose to wear fun costumes, but that’s your call. We just want you to be comfortable.

How can I spread the word?

Generate genuine enthusiasm for the cause by reaching out to as many people as possible. Whether it is through word of mouth, email, social media (tag us @826dc and use #HalfHalfHalfHalfHalfMarathon) or letter, this is worth sharing! If you sound excited, your ask will sound like an exciting opportunity to give.

I don’t really know how to fundraise. Can you help me?

Of course. When you sign up, we’ll send you a Marathon Toolkit with all sorts of sample language, best practices, info about 826DC, and more.
