Poetry and Collage Making

February 17 @ 3:30 pm - 5:00 pm

Some say that a picture is worth a thousand words. At the very least, a picture can be a catalyst for some great writing! Arts and crafts and poetry intersect in this workshop for young writers. We will learn about some of the key elements of poetry writing and practice writing poems using pictures as our inspiration. We will also make collages using scraps from old magazines, construction paper, and your own poems!

This workshop is intended for ages 6-11

Taught by Michael Spaeth

Michael Spaeth is a graduate of the University of Michigan with degrees in Political Science and Communication Studies. He currently does nonprofit communications work in the education policy field in the D.C. area, and previously worked at a nonprofit agency that provides health and social services, creative enrichment, and other services for low-income individuals in Chicago. Michael wrote his first short story at the age of three and has been writing poems and short stories ever since. In addition to teaching writing workshops at 826DC, he has led and assisted with creative writing workshops at organizations in Michigan and Chicago.
